(3) TOTAL BUS DRIVER POSITIONS AVAILABLE: (1) PART-TIME MAIN SUMMER CAMP CDL BUS DRIVER (2) AS-NEEDED CDL BUS DRIVERS – ON CALL
We are seeking a skilled Bus Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will safely transport summer camp participants to and from Apple Ridge Farm at 173 Apple Ridge Road, Copper Hill, VA 24079. The designated route includes pickup and drop-off locations within the vicinity of Roanoke. The position reports to the Executive Director and is paid biweekly on Thursdays.
RATE OF PAY: $20 – $22/hr.
HOURS: (1) MAIN DRIVER: 20-25 hrs, Monday-Thursdays. Split 2 to 3-hour am/pm shifts
Duration: Week of June 8th (trial runs). Camp dates: June 15- July 23, 2025. Also needed for one-off assignments as possible.
(2) AS-NEEDED (BACK-UP) DRIVERS: Needed for split shifts. As-needed for one-off assignments beginning in April (spring field trips), with potential continuation as a backup driver for summer camp starting in June (Monday through Thursday). Typical shifts are split into 2 to 3 hours in the morning and afternoon.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Safely operates a bus across interstate, primary, and mountainous roads.
• Conducts safe and orderly loading and unloading of passengers at specified stops.
• Manage passenger behavior to ensure a safe and pleasant journey
• Communicate effectively with passengers and address any concerns
• Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus
REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES
Education: Required – High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience/ Certifications/ Licenses
Preferred: Experience driving a school bus with passengers.
Preferred: Experience working with children
Required: Possess valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B (or A) with Passenger (P), and must have no air brake restrictions.
Must have and maintain a Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificate or obtain the same after employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Experience working with inner-city children is preferred
• Proficient in behavior management techniques
• Ability to communicate effectively with passengers
• Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Familiarity with school bus driving regulations and procedures
• Mechanical knowledge /basic bus maintenance and troubleshooting a plus!
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be age eighteen (18) or older. Subject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background search with acceptable results. Following a conditional employment offer, one must submit to a pre-employment drug screening. Must also be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description. Must supply references. Must complete State and County requirements of twenty hours of classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. Must possess an acceptable driving history verified by a current Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Driving Record.

Housekeeper /Airbnb Hostess – Seasonal position / Part-time / As Needed
Location: 173 Apple Ridge, NE, Copper Hill, VA 24079
Apple Ridge Farm seeks an experienced housekeeper to clean and maintain facilities and lodging areas. Hours for this position are limited and seasonal. Scheduling will occur as needed on a part-time basis. Site-specific training and supplies will be provided. Payroll occurs bi-weekly on Thursdays. This position is located in Copper Hill, VA, 24079.
Duties:
● Ensures cleanliness of designated areas according to Apple Ridge standards.
● Performs other duties as requested, including but not limited to sweeping, dusting, mopping, cleaning and stocking bathrooms, trash removal, recycling, etc.
● Services guest rooms as needed in accordance with Apple Ridge Farm, Caboose Car Bed & Breakfast procedures, such as stocking guest room supplies and changing bed linens, while following company standards and safety/security procedures.
● This role would also conduct ‘deep cleaning’ activities within the guest rooms or event spaces in conjunction with volume needs or preventative maintenance tasks.
● Secures the facility, ensuring buildings are locked/unlocked as required.
● Ensures security of company assets.
● Other related duties and tasks as assigned by the manager.
Requirements:
● Previous custodial experience preferred
● This position requires strong attention to detail and an ability to communicate effectively with team members verbally and in written form.
● Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling greater than 50 lbs.
● Must be available to work weekends – Flexibility is a plus!
● Must be proficient in the use of e-mail, Google Calendar, and smartphone apps
● Must have a smartphone with efficient cellular service
● Must pass a successful Virginia Background Check, including violent crimes and crimes against minors
● Must have reliable transportation
● A successful background check regarding violent crimes or crimes against minors is required.
